Motion Design Software for Machines
Motion Designer is fully integrated into MechDesigner. It is the powerful engine to move your mechanisms exactly as you want - it is an important capability of MechDesigner. There is a complete list of Cam Laws - you might also call them Motion Laws or even Segment Types - to fully define the movement. We even have special motion laws that are particularly suited to some mechanism configurations and packaging machine design needs. Once you have plugged in the motion design in to your mechanism, you can analyze the motion of all the parts in the mechanism, as well as forces of course.
The segments are joined end-to-end to create a motion. The full selection of motion continuity options are available at each segment - which might be position, velocity, acceleration and jerk. Motion Laws are designed specifically to improve the performance of movements in packaging machines. These are sometimes referred to as Cam Laws for Cam and Follower Mechanisms: e.g Modified Sinusoid, Modified Trapezoidal, Polynomial 3-4-5, Polynomial 4-5-6-7. Of course, the same laws can be applied to servomotor motion design.

Real Time Motion Simulation UpdateMotions are made of segments that are joined end-to-end. Nodes, or blend-points, connect the segment together, end-to-end. The nodes can control position, velocity, acceleration and jerk to ensure the correct motion continuity is maintained throughout the motion cycle. You can make your motion as smooth as you like. As you edit your motions in MotionDesigner, you will see in this video that the cam profile continually updates in real-time as your machine simulation is cycling. Read more >>> |

Motion Segment Types and Cam Motion LawsMotionDesigner includes many different segment types which can be very easily incorporated into a complete motion design and blended with varying degrees of continuity. In packaging machine design it is extremely important to design the motion of every mechanism as smoothly as possible. MotionDesigner gives you that ability. You can always design a bad motion of course, so be careful. Our online help has a few guidelines to ensure you work towards a good motion design. Read more >>> |

Adding New Segments for more Complex MotionsMechDesigner offers you a simple four segment motion design as a default setting. If you want to design a more complex motion, then you will need to add more segments. There are many ways a new motion segment can be added to the Motion Design Read more >>> |

MotionDesigner - even partial cam lawsSometimes only parts of standard cam-laws are required for a multi-segment motion design. This can be easily done in MotionDesigner. The start and end of a cam law can be specified. Other laws depending on their flexibility will provide continuity if they can. Read more >>> |
